Johnny Baranski
Memorial Haiku Contest
Submission Guidelines

NaHaiWriMo is pleased to announce the Johnny Baranski Memorial Haiku Contest. This contest is named in honor of Johnny Baranski, one of NaHaiWriMo’s earliest and longest-running supporters who passed away in January of 2018. Read more about Johnny. We welcome your haiku submissions in celebration of Johnny’s life and his passion for haiku poetry.

Deadline: Submitted online by September 30, 2018.

Eligibility: Open to anyone in the world who has liked the NaHaiWriMo page on Facebook. We hope you’ll participate, too—we have daily writing prompts every day of the year.

Entry Fees: FREE, but please submit no more than two haiku per person.

Adjudication: Our judge is Paul Miller, editor of Modern Haiku magazine, former treasurer of the Haiku Society of America, and an award-winning haiku poet. See the Modern Haiku website and Facebook page.

Prizes: $100 for first prize, $50 for second prize, and $25 for third prize. Top winners and honorable mentions will also be published, with commentary, on the NaHaiWriMo website and Facebook page. Winners will be announced in November, 2018.

Submissions: Poems submitted, in English only, must be previously unpublished, and not posted to NaHaiWriMo or other social media pages, groups, blogs, or websites. By submitting, you assert that your entries are previously unpublished and are solely your own original creations. To submit, go to the Johnny Baranski Memorial Haiku Contest online submission form and enter your name, address, email, phone number (optional), and up to two of your haiku. No postal or email submissions will be accepted.

Additional Information: If you have questions, or if you have problems with the online submission form, please email Michael Dylan Welch at WelchM@aol.com.

Thank You: Gratitude to the family of Johnny Baranski and to many NaHaiWriMo donors whose generosity has made this contest possible. To read more NaHaiWriMo publications, please see With Cherries on Top (free ebook) and Jumble Box.
